About Jersey
Those of us who already live and work in Jersey know just how fortunate we are: firstly there’s the island itself and the outdoor, continental lifestyle it offers; then there’s the buoyant economy with jobs in abundance – and more and more companies bringing their business to our shores.

Jersey
The opportunities for career development and progression within the Island are substantial.

Add a low personal tax regime, short commuter journeys, beautiful countryside, wonderful seaside vistas, some of the best sunshine records in the British Isles, easy connections to the UK, France and the rest of Europe and beyond, excellent education and healthcare, superb recreation opportunities and low crime levels and you have all the ingredients for a unique lifestyle.
If you are a national of a European Economic Area (EEA) country, you will not require permission from the Customs & Immigration Service to enter into employment. If you are a non European Economic Area national, you will require permission to work in Jersey. Work permits are applied for by prospective employers in the Island and not by individual applicants. In addition to a work permit you may also require a visa or entry clearance.
If you are a Commonwealth national, you may be eligible to apply for a Working Holiday Maker or United Kingdom Ancestry entry clearance which would allow you to work in the United Kingdom and Islands. The Working Holidaymaker scheme is an arrangement where a person aged between 17 & 30 at the time of entry can come to the United Kingdom & Channel Islands for an extended holiday. This can be for a period of up to two years, with the intention of taking paid work on either a full time basis for twelve months or on a part time basis for twenty four months as part of the holiday. As a Commonwealth national, you may also be eligible to apply for a United Kingdom Ancestry entry clearance, provided that you are aged 17 years or over and can demonstrate that you have a grandparent who was born in the United Kingdom and Islands. An entry clearance is a visa or entry certificate issued for the purpose of travel to the United Kingdom and Islands.
Applications for entry clearances must be made in the country where you are living, to the British Embassy, High Commission or other British Diplomatic Mission (collectively known as British Diplomatic Posts) designated to issue entry clearance. General information on immigration and a list of nationalities who require visas to enter the United Kingdom & Channel Islands can be found on the relevant website, below.

If you’re actually moving to Jersey to take up employment for the first time, your new employer is likely to be able to furnish you with help and support, but should you need more, Excel is there for you again and can provide you with the right contacts to cover the range of issues you may face: housing, education, removal firms, healthcare, insurance, pets and so on.

NOTE: In May 2008 a 3% Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in the Island.  To find out more about GST and how it will affect you, click here
